We set a new company record for energy savings by transforming Boliden’s 2,000 sq.m shower building into a high-tech facility inclusive of heat pumps and strategic system upgrades — all within a guaranteed simple payback of 3.3 years.
Prior to being introduced to Symphony, Boliden had exhausted its efforts in search of a contractor to provide an affordable energy solution for its miner changing facility.
Whereas each contractor could provide some piece of the solution, none had shown ability to provide a holistic and integrated solution. Symphony resolved this with a composite solution that combined new insulation, additional heat distribution terminal equipment, the retrofit of two industrial heat pumps, new heating system controls, field sensors, and all this incorporated into an onsite BEMS system programmed with Symphony’s project tailored control algorithms.
Apart from optimising energy performance, Symphony incorporated additional hot water storage into the heating system design along with day/night cost optimisation controls to reduce the average unit cost for the electricity consumed by the facility.
The facilities team now has the ability to monitor, operate, and maintain the system using Symphony Cloud. Furthermore, they benefit from predictive alerts generated by the Symphony algorithms so they can address plant issues before they manifest as a performance problem for this mission critical facility for their miners.
